Eradicating Snares from African Wilderness

Help us refine our snare detection RADAR algorithms so we can initiate field trials in South Luangwa National Park.

Support This Revolutionary Mission

Snaring is the biggest threat to African wildlife. Help us develop and deploy the technology that will eradicate this indiscriminate killer from our reserves. Contribute to our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.

Preparing Our Technology For Field Trials

Snares are almost impossible to identify by foot. Our Synthetic Aperture RADAR is already showing promising results and strong potential for wide-scale aerial detection of snares and gin traps. Help us refine our detection algorithms and integrate our RADAR with our FlyH2 Dragonfly V long range drone.

This system, aptly named Guardian, has the potential to cover over 40,000 hectares in a single flight - a total game changer for rangers. We will deploy our first snare-detection aircraft, the Guardian One into the South Luangwa National Park for field trials. Once refined, the technology will be made available for all African parks.

Every year, tens of thousands of snares are set in game reserves by bushmeat poachers,, resulting in devastating losses of endangered species and other wildlife.

Snares pose the second greatest threat to our wildlife next to habitat loss. Yet, only a small fraction of snares are recovered, mostly when it's too late.

Snared animals suffer a torturous death, but conservation agencies like Conservation South Luangwa (CSL) have great successes in rescuing animals. This initiative is a total game-changer in supporting ranger teams in removing snares, discouraging bushmeat poachers from entering game reserves, and protecting our endangered wildlife.

PARTNERS

Leveraging the work performed by Prof Michael Inggs and Led by Dr Dave Gaynor, this project has

attracted some of the most esteemed RADAR engineers in the world.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Dr. JOAO ALMEIDA

Director, Mozambique Wildlife Alliance

Remotely locating snares from the air at a large enough scale, allowing removal of snares by ground teams would be a game changer for conservation in Mozambique's wilderness areas.

MARK HELDANE

Director, Zambezi Delta Conservation

Detecting snares and gin traps at scale from the air, would completely transform the way we protect wildlife in the Zambezi Delta.

"Certainly an exciting investment that could be the game changer." - Cole du Plessis EWT
